Software Configuration Manager 6 month + contract £Neg.
The Configuration Manager’s (CM) responsibility is to initially setup and evaluate Software Issue Tracking (SIT) tools, including adding hooks into a backend database and interfacing to a Source Control Management (SCM) system. The tools earmarked for evaluation are: Atlassian JIRA and Axosoft OnTime and others may be considered. A suitable SCM system also needs to be evaluated (Borland Star Team is the incumbent tool and may continue to be used). The evaluation will be made against a set of predefined criteria. The CM will report all findings to a small working group and make recommendations for improvements. Following the evaluation phase, a suitable tool will be selected and work will commence on rolling out the solution, plugging any requirement gaps using suitable “Addons” and/or creation of custom scripts to interface to the SIT tool.
The role will initially be a 6 month contract based at the company offices in Eastbourne, East Sussex and Burgess Hill, West Sussex.
Essential Skills / Duties:
Provide guidance to best known methods and solutions
Ability to setup and evaluate SIT tools; e.g. Atlassian JIRA and Axosoft OnTime
Ability to setup and evaluate SCM systems; e.g. SVN, Git, Star Team
Ability to configure and install software applications onto remote servers, working in conjunction with existing IT support engineers
Ability to execute tests to ensure an application meets certain documented criteria
Provide regular updates to management on progress and to flag any key issues
Capable of solving technical problems related to servers, SIT tools and SCM systems
Ability to add, develop and configure “Addons” and scripts to automate, simplify and facilitate the development process
Ability to migrate data from a legacy system to a new SIT tool and SCM system
Proficient at explaining technical details to other engineers and managers
Desirable:
3+ years of experience in a configuration management role using either JIRA or OnTime or similar
2+ years of experience working in a mixed discipline development environment; e.g. embedded, Windows and Web based code
2+ years of experience developing scripts in Python, Perl or similar
Familiarity with cloud based virtual servers e.g. Amazon Web Services
Ability to prepare and deliver training material based on the newly created solution
