Health and Safety Manager. £40k+ Bonus. Bexhill / East Sussex.
Reporting to the Head of Property Services this interim to permanent role is responsible for reactive H&S advice & managing operational H&S aspects, coordinating fully with the Property Services team and colleagues. Qualifications: NEBOSH / IOSH . This to include review of current Health & Safety policies and procedures and ongoing development of the same to ensure efficient and practical integration, implementation and compliance. The role will cover offices at Bexhill and Newmarket, and overview (partial involvement) at Managed Offices in Leicester, London & Eastbourne. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES • Assist with H&S advice & guidance on reactive basis as & when required, including with regard to various building/ maintenance/ project works. • Review existing policies and procedures to ensure they are in line with current legislation to include content of Employee Handbook. Consider New Starter induction content and advise on development (taking into account imminent implementation of Awaken online system, responsibility of colleague). • Coordinate with Property Services colleagues and others as required to ensure that the Policies and Procedures are efficient, workable in practice and implemented, including recommending any training required. • Analysing and define health and safety issues (proactively & reactively), recommending solutions and providing business-focused advice. This to cover the business/facilities generally, and in-house/outsourced Property Services functions. • Carrying out H&S audits to identify & manage safety risks / ensure compliance. Develop Quarterly checklist of key H&S items to audit & report status on. • Work with Property Services team to apply control of contractors procedures. Take the lead in ongoing development of procedures to improve efficiency and ease of use. • Review current procedures with regard to Fire/ Emergency evacuation and develop as required for efficiency, practicality, workability & compliance. • Review current procedures with regard to Roof Access and develop as required for efficiency, practicality, workability & compliance. • Promote a safe working environment for all employees Skills Practical by nature and able to integrate with fellow team members to develop workable (in practice) solutions incorporating H&S needs into day to day Property Services activities and responsibilities. Knowledge & Experience The job holder must hold a recognised, advanced qualification in health & safety and/or be a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health. They will have ideally worked in an in-house corporate role and should be able to demonstrate a track record of drafting and implementing Health &Safety strategy, policies and procedures. Specific knowledge of Fire Safety and related Building/Workplace Regulations would is desirable. Collaborative working style and the ability to build excellent working relationships.
